Elmer was born October 31, 1925 in Hamilton, Ohio to Raymond and Annabell (Abney) Alford. Elmer graduated from Hamilton High School class of 1944. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He spent two years in the South Pacific. Upon his return he worked at Champion Papers for 42 years retiring in 1988. Elmer was a life time member of the V.F.W., Am Vets Post 1983, Monkey Mutual Aid Society, Eagles #407, and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Hamilton Boat Club. He is survived by his son, Dr. Donald E. Alford (Rock) and wife Sharon; grandsons, Marcus and Jon Alford; and his daughter, Deborah Jean Alford of Lexington, Kentucky. He also leaves step daughter-in-law, LuAnn Farmer and step-grandchildren, Suzette (Kim) Wentz, Robin Dole and Robert (Angie) Farmer. Elmer also leaves to cherish his memory long-time loving friend, Pat Hildebrand along with her family. Elmer was blessed with many devoted friends. His family and friends will hold his memory near. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Alford; his parents, a special aunt; Lottie Alford; brothers, Raymond and Alvin and his step-son, Robert C. Farmer. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 NW Washington Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio with Rev. Edwin Beck officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 to 11:00 a.m. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Hamilton and the Fifth Floor Staff of Fort Hamilton Hospital for their care.
